Migration from MSSQL DMO to MSSQL VSS

To start using MSSQL backup through VSS it is not enough to migrate from the previous 11.5.4.11178 or older to the last released version, because after a regular update the Client will continue to backup MSSQL through DMO. Therefore you need to perform several additional actions.

When the migration process from the version you use to the new one is completed, please go to MC and send the remote command migrate to mssql vss to an appropriate account.

As soon as the command is applied (within 5–7 minutes after it is sent), backup of the MSSQL plugin will be automatically started. Wait for its completion and check if it is successful. Only in case of successful session all tabs relating to MSSQL backup through DMO will be hidden and migration to MSSQL VSS will be finally completed.

Before migration MsSQL databases tab is available:

with following required fields to specify:

After migration from MSSQL DMO, no more additional tabs are presented. If you want to make a backup of MSSQL through VSS just select a database(s) in the backup tree:

Please pay your attention to the fact that if restore process of MSSQL will be provided through Virtual Drive you should do the following:

  • add to the config.ini file the string AllowVssAutoRecover=1 in the [General] section.
  • create and set parameter "DisableLogShrink"=dword:00000001 in the system registry. It should be located in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SQLWriter\Settings
  • also make sure that the version of your MSSQL is 2005 or higher.
