VMware Restore Per Files

  • Install the Virtual Drive, it will be mounted to some disc (e.g. B:\)
  • Do the backup of a virtual machine;

  • Do the command vmware-mount /m:n L: path_to_description_file via cmd, where:
    • L (or any other character) — the name of a disk, content from virtual machine will be mounted to;
    • path_to_description_file — path to the Disk Descriptor File (e.g. "b:\VMWareBackupPlugin\2012-03-16-11-11-16\...\ha-datacenter\host\...\[datastore1] WinXP-Base$WinXP-Base-000003.vmdk.description.vmdk" ).
  • If the command was completed successfully, you can go to the disk L, look through the content of backed up virtual machine and restore it per files through the Virtual Drive.
